New!

New!

Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you, and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. EZEKIEL 36:26 AMP

In addition to all that God promises to Israel, he also makes the pronouncement in today's extract. Why is a new heart and a new spirit important in this experience we are called into? First, I believe it is because the human heart is so susceptible to evil. It's natural inclination is towards all things sin, and God, in his holiness, cannot work with such a heart. Everywhere you turn to in the Bible, you read of men with both kinds of hearts; one thing is clear: all were human, but some allowed God work on them, and their end was marvellous.

Why can't God stay with the old heart? Because the natural consequence of sin is death. And one is dead due to sin, even while physically alive. Note that God is the One making the offer here; there is nothing the natural man could have done to earn the new heart. In fact, natural man would not even know he needed the new heart. When a new heart is in place, there is no end to what God can do with such a life. Even when mistakes are made, because the heart has been given to God, he knows how to restore such a heart if it is sincere in its repentance.

A heart of flesh looks like the flesh it is put in. A heart of stone is out of place in a body of flesh. If you allow God work in you what He wants, you last the distance. He is able to impress His ideas, desires and commands on your heart. He is able to direct your heart into His will and purpose. So, what kind of heart is in place in you? Does God hold control or are you firmly in control? As it has always been said: your control point determines your eternal destination. You have got to allow God work in you what is His will, so you can be all He desires and you can end up where He has ordained. The alternative is eternal damnation. His time of favour is here.
