O Lord, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth. Isaiah 25:1 KJV
For all of us alive, there is an identity crisis we must go through and resolve, and that has to do with the One we will submit to and obey. For the writer here, his words made it clear how he resolved his crisis, and that was by submitting to God and his Lord. You see, all of us have a master, whether we realise it or not. By our actions, words and reactions, we reveal daily who that Lord is. The writer confesses that God is His Lord. Can I say the same honestly and truthfully? Is God my Lord or one of my many options when the need arises?
And one thing must be made clear: you will worship the one you submit to. Worship is devotion, takes time and attention. Whether it is God or the devil you have submitted to, you have no choice but to worship that choice. That choice will direct and impact the daily choices you make; it will dictate your pursuits and priorities, and will direct your private affairs and public life. Why is it that when you spend some time with people, you kind of have an idea what their spiritual life looks like? You cannot rise over and above your private life; it will eventually show out.
The writer was clear: I will exalt thee; I will praise thy name. Why the reaction? He had seen God at work, and was sure and certain that this was the right thing to do. When a man has had a personal encounter with God, you cannot be passive or inactive; it will move you to action and response. When a man has received something of value from God, he cannot keep it to himself. Look at the two things this writer referred to: done wonderful things and his counsels of old being faithfulness and truth. No matter what my physical experiences in life are, my personal encounter with God teaches me that nothing catches God by suprise. There is nothing accidental about my experiences; they are all part of the greater good that God is working out. Long before I was even formed, God already knew me. All the days of my life were written down by him even before a single one of them came to pass. And he watches over his word, to ensure that it comes to pass. He isn't man, helpless and hopeless against things he can't control; he's the God of the universe, fully in charge and in control.
I cannot fully explain it to you, and you cannot fully understand it, unless you have had a personal encounter of this God. Seek Him out; he isn't far away from you. Ask Him to come into your heart and make you His own. Don't focus too much on the noise going on around you; focus on getting the Lord over all storms into your life, and you will experience the mercy, grace, power and joy that only God can give. Eternity is at stake here. Be sure. His time of favour is here.
