Isaiah 9:6 AMPC
[6] For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father [of Eternity], Prince of Peace.
We have read from different prophecies about the reason for this season. We have read from Isaiah, as well as from Micah and Jeremiah, men who walked the earth more than 500 years before Jesus Himself walked the earth too. These men spoke from the place of inspiration, and did not physically see their prophecies come to pass, but they knew, without a doubt, that the One who made the promise had the ability, capacity and the capability to bring to pass all that He had said. They did not see it, but they actually saw it by the help of the Holy Spirit. That is why the verse above is quite instructive; the man who lived more than 500 years before Jesus was speaking as if he was seeing the fulfilment of the promise. That is how God deals with us; He wants us to walk by faith, because that is the only way to please Him. No other way has been laid down by God to walk with Him.
We see the man Isaiah speaking of this gift as if he was seeing Him. The message is to the whole world: the child has been born; the Son has been given. God Himself had come down in the form of man, so that man can then aspire to be like God. That is a big deal; there was no way mortal man could aspire to such great heights without God's help, and that is why Jesus had to come. The gift is to the whole world, and there is no one so bad that s/he is beyond the reach and scope of the help that is available in and through the gift. There is no sin so great, no stain so deep, and no dirt so widespread that it can be bigger and better than the gift that has been given. The gift is God's answer to all of man's problems with sin. As the chapter from where the verse above is taken makes clear, all who are in the darkness of sin have an opportunity to be exposed to the light the Son is.
The verse above gives us an insight into the mission of the Son. He is referred to as the personification of the authority of God on earth; the One who rules over all things. Check out the names the Son was given in the verse above, and you can see that these are exclusive to Him alone. No mortal man, or any part of creation can claim those names. He is Wonderful. He is the Mighty God. He is the Everlasting Father. He is the Prince of Peace. Each of these names has an earthly impact as well as eternal implications. The gift makes sense to me because all I could not do by myself has been made possible by his birth. The power of the sinful nature has been defeated; the power to live right has been bestowed on me, and now, I can claim the inheritance that is in Christ. You get it by new birth, not by entitlement or inheritance. Do you have it? Remember, there is an eternity that is tied to how you answer this question. God's time of favour is here.
