How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping watch [on himself] according to Your word [conforming his life to Your precepts]. PSALM 119:9 AMP
A fundamental question, with its answer steeped in eternity. The writer must have been young, hence the words chosen, but you can bet that its message is timeless and applies to all generations. The question of purity is a fundamental issue to our lives. Slowly but steadily, it is becoming more and more difficult to stay pure or clean. The world's system permits promiscuity and even rewards it; the world's system does not understand and can therefore not provide for purity.
The only way out is through the Word of God. Its message is timeless and eternal, and provides answers to all of life's questions. If we can claim Abraham's blessings till today, it means that the argument that God is old school does not hold water. If years ago, he said the wages of sin is death, there is no evidence to support any belief that this position has changed. What gives man the false confidence with sin may be the 'slow' grace of God, but it is profitable to remember that God cannot be predicted.
God's Word is the standard. He provides daily guidance and leadership. Note that the word is first a guide to the man himself, not a whip to pull others into shape. Of what use is teaching others lessons that you have refused to heed yourself? It has to speak to you first, change your life first, then your life can speak to other people. God is not really about the crowd; he works first on the heart of one person, then he moves through that one person to change the world, also one person at a time. Can God find me a person he can work on, to also change the world around him? Is his Word my priority or a chore? His time of favour is here.
