Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. Romans 4:7-8 KJV
It has always been emphasized that the way the world defines 'being blessed' is a lot different from the way God defines it. Because the world sees things in physical and quantitative terms, it has to determine the value of anything it defines in those terms. That is why the richest people in the world are defined by their monetary value, not necessarily by their impact or eternal footprint.
David who spoke here, but was quoted in the New Testament, understood the power of God's grace and mercy on a human life. His life was a living testimony to what mercy can accomplish. His beginning was humble, his youth was eventful and his kingship was 'impact -full'. There was an incidence of adultery, as well as murder. God didn't allow him build a temple for Him because his hands were soiled with blood, but when you deal with the mercy of God, you really don't get what you 'deserve'. Man's and God's judgement for what David did should have been death, but when mercy speaks, natural laws are put on hold. I cannot claim to know how this mercy works in all its fullness, but I can definitely attest to the fact that I stand here because of that mercy.
I look at David's words again and I marvel at its simplicity. All I need is mercy. I stand only by grace. When my sins are forgiven, the fear of judgement is dealt with. When the blood of Jesus covers your sins, the hold of the past is broken and a new phase starts. When the blood covers all the past, even the devil cannot bring it up against you. When the blood speaks, it is Life that is speaking, and when God's Son is the One speaking, of course, the Father will listen.
When a person comes to God, dirty, wounded and broken, acknowledging his helplessness and asking for cleansing, the person gets it. Have you approached the contact point of mercy? Do you know all persons are welcome there, no matter who you are or what you have done? Come as you are, and meet with the only One whose touch can set you right and guarantee eternal life. When next you are tempted to think that the good around you is a result of the good in you, remember, you stand only by grace. His time of favour is here.
