Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be established. Proverbs 16:3 KJV
In order to understand the weight and timing of today's extract, let's look at another version: Before you do anything, put your trust totally in God and not in yourself. Then every plan you make will succeed. When God asks me to commit my works to Him, He is not asking me to consider Him an afterthought, but as the one and only attraction. I shouldn't come to Him after I have tried all available options and had my fingers burnt. I should not come to Him simply out of a sense of duty or to fulfil all righteousness, but because I have come to know God on a personal level and know that He wants to be involved in every area of my life. So, what is God to you: a spare wheel or the steering wheel? A passenger or the driver and conductor of your life?
And of course, it is important you make plans and it also matters in whose hands you leave the plans. Not planning at all is like waking up and going out of your house, unsure of where you are going but just expecting that you will end up in the right place. How would you know if you are in the right place if you never knew where you were going in the first place? Make plans, but keep them fluid enough until God has vetted and approved them. No amount of human wisdom could have prepared the world for recent events, and this makes it clear that God can upset any plans that does not lie within His will and purpose.
And I am asked not to fret over the plans, but to commit them to God's hands. You cannot commit something to God, and still retain the worrying rights to those things. If I am still worried about something I gave up to God, I never trusted God with them in the first place. Trust means letting go completely, not holding on to a part of it. Trust means I admit I cannot help myself or solve the problem on my own, but I have left them to someone who has the capacity and strength to take them and solve whatever problems or uncertainties they pose.
When God is in charge of my planning, the thoughts that lead to the plans lead to the establishment and promotion of God's will. Let it be known today that God will never promote or establish anything that does not align with His will. You can push the plans forward and use men to promote them for a season, but when God is really ready, He will rubbish the plans. You don't want to spend time in the wilderness away from God's favour. You don't want to spend time fretting over plans that will not succeed. Go to God, and let Him guide and lead you down the right path. There are no regrets for a man whose ways, works and plans are subject to the control of His creator. His time of favour is here.
