And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one. Zechariah 14:9 KJV
There is a conclusion that is common to all dispensations that the bible covers, and it is this: God hates and punishes sin. It does not matter in whom it is found, or how special that person is to God. David had a heart God himself approved, but when he sinned, God punished him, even if his love and mercy still kept David away from eternal death. All through the bible days, we see that common thread, and it is something we must be careful about in our days too. God's punishment of sin is again laid out in the verses before today's extract.
God hates sin, but loves the sinner, and the sinner will do well to repent and return to God before that great, terrible and dreadful day of the Lord comes. That day of the Lord is coming, whether I like it or not. It is a day that has been spoken about by God all through the bible days too. It is a day of both darkness and light, when there will neither be sunlight or cold. Everywhere you read about the day of the Lord, what is clear is that it is a day that only those who are in the Lord will survive.
It is a day known only to the Lord who is coming, so no scientific evidence or information can provide details of the exact day, but God, in his mercy, has given us signs of that day. As we examine the word of God, we see very clearly the signs that we should watch out for as we prepare for that day. I cannot prepare for a day that I have ignored its signs and warnings. I cannot claim to be prepared for a day that my life is not aligning with its requirements. I must do an audit with the help and guidance of the Lord himself, so that I do not deceive myself. Am I really ready for that great and terrible day of the Lord? If that day is today, right now, would God find me ready for him?
The Lord who speaks here is the One and Only Lord, that is why he is referred to as The Lord. The one who created all that our eyes can see is the one whose view must be sought and respected. He is the sole authority, at whose command all that we see and hear were created. If he created them, he can destroy them if and when he desires. For now, it seems as if the devil is in charge, but the devil is only reacting in fury because he knows his time is short and he will be defeated when The Lord returns in all his glory.
The Lord shall be king over all the earth, and all who have been eagerly waiting for his return will reign with him. No part of the earth will be able to resist his authority and power, as there will be none who can stand the one who is called the Lord. The devil tries to convince people he is also a force to be reckoned with, but the truth is that he is a fallen angel, who has been destined for destruction. There is only one true Lord, the sole authority in heaven and on earth, and the one who returns soon. His name is the Lord, and the only name that will matter at the end of it all. Names are powerful; the name of the Lord is called a strong tower. No other authority or power is called by that name. No other name, no matter how popular, can do the things the name of the Lord can do. The Lord has made it clear to me what I stand to gain if I know his name. My response is the key to unlocking all these benefits. Would I allow the Lord be the Lord of my life? Is there any part of my life that I am keeping away from him? Is there any other name on my lips other than the name of the Lord? The day of the Lord is coming; may his grace help me be ready. God's time of favour is here.
