Effect!

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 KJV

The Inspiration:

In a generation that takes pride in position, privilege and power, there's a need to once again review and evaluate the right place for every facet of life. We lay emphasis on ephemeral things, such as possessions, seeking relevance from things that have been created, just like us. Men fight and kill themselves over limited editions of life, forgetting that there is a place where the things of this earthly life don't count as much. There is a limit to all of life's pain or pleasure, and it is therefore important to really know what is key, and then pursue that to the exclusion of any other thing. That one thing is the Word of God. First, it is the Source that is key here; the Source is the eternal being, who is the sole authority of all life. He is the One who spoke back at creation, and all we see today came into existence. Now, that is power. 

The Contention:

The power in His Word brought all life into existence. As it was then, so does it continue to be so till today. The same creative power continues to shake things up around us. We see God's hand at work in the universe: the earth as part of the solar system continues to rotate on its own axis, as well as around the sun. We do not see foundations or pillars, yet the earth continues to survive pandemics, pestilence and pogroms. The above is all in the physical. Now, picture the equivalent in the spiritual. You have to experience the power of God's Word first on a personal level, and then you can understand how it changes you on the inside first, and then impacts your outside. It is described here as sharper than any double-edged sword, able to cut in any direction, and the one seeking to handle it being careful too, so s/he does not get harmed. 

The Conclusion:

It is sharp enough to divide soul and spirit and precise enough to make a separation between joints and marrow. It is so powerful that it can discern even the secret thoughts of a man's heart. The One whose word is this powerful knows all, and with Him, there is no impossibility, except that which I place before myself. I must know and recognize that I am dealing with a God of absolute knowledge and power, whose word is still breaking boundaries and establishing new frontiers. God is His Word and His Word is He himself. He stakes his name and reputation on the integrity of His Word. He can be trusted to do all He has promised. Now that I know all the above, what will my response be? Would I allow God work that which He alone is able to do? God's time of favour is here.
