God's Glory!

God's Glory!

So then, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you may do, do all for the honor and glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31 AMPC

Background:
As is always the case, Paul writes on different topics of interest to the heart of God and for the benefit of the people at the time, and by extension, to those of us who walk by faith in these times and seasons. This is the age of freedom and liberty, with people generally getting the idea that they need to be free. It would mean that they know they are in some form of bondage, but the greater problem is that they do not know what they need to be free from, and the right kind of freedom they need to be pursuing. For every state that God brings a man to, there are expectations and demands from God for that particular state and person, and only as I seek out God's will and pursue it diligently will my life experience the release of God's grace. There is a demand from God for how I view possessions, power and position, and if I do not know what God is saying per time, mistakes will be made, and they could be quite costly.

Focus:
People will argue that eating and drinking are simple human needs, as we all need food and water to survive. Even animals, no matter how small, need to get food to eat so that they can grow. However, as we know, these simple human activities have led many people into trouble. In bible times, we read of Esau, the firstborn of Isaac, who, because of hunger, despised the birthright, selling it for a plate of food. He ate the food but lost something even more valuable. We also read about Judas who had been consistently stealing from the purse of the disciples. He would have been warned, but he must have felt confident in his greed that he would not be found out. We all know how that ended for him. There is a need for me to audit my life and its practices, pursuits and priorities, so that they do not become the sources of heartbreak and disaster later on in life.

Conclusion:
The understanding has to be very clear that as a child of God, I cannot live as I please. The devil is very smart, and it is those things that one could call small and routine that put people in trouble. Ask Samson, who by force of habit, thought it was the norm. He didn't know he was already in trouble. The verse today makes it clear that all I do must be to the glory of God, and the only way this will happen is if I know God on a personal level. It cannot be about what others say or do, but how and where God leads. He wants to be given all the glory in and through my life, and it will also not happen by accident. It is the end result of a daily fear of God; a daily desire to honour and glorify God in all things, no matter how small. Well, with God, nothing is small. Eternity lies at the end of every decision I get to make on this side of eternity. May God be pleased with my life, as I live daily. God's time of favour is here.
