All in All!

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6 KJV

The Inspiration:

Jesus was speaking here to just His disciples, away from the crowd. There was no crowd seeking validation, or the scribes and Pharisees trying to trip him up. These were just the ones who had made sacrifices, following Him everywhere He went to teach, heal and preach. The disciples had seen Him do some amazing things like walk on water, calm the storm and feed thousands of people with a measly meal of just 5 loaves of bread and 2 small fish. Interestingly, Judas Iscariot who would later betray Jesus was there all along; he saw these miracles, but he had the seed of greed in him. He knew Jesus but he would not submit his life to the control of the One who could give him true life. He followed Jesus all the way to the last supper, but he missed the way to eternal life. At the end, there was no eternal life for him because he took his own life. One quick lesson for me here is that it is not enough to just read and hear about Jesus; the critical step is deciding what you would do with Him. 

The Contention:

Jesus introduced Himself to his disciples in these 3 dimensions: the Way, the Truth and the Life. What would these dimensions mean? First, there is an end in view for all of human life. We were made for more than what our eyes can see now. God placed His breath in us, making us living souls, and it is only expected that my heart will long after the One who formed me. Men have found alternatives to God: money, fame, influence, and the other palliative measures that the devil wants us to focus on. Some men have also presented themselves as God, but unfortunately, unless God fills my heart totally, nothing and no oneà else can. Jesus is the WAY to that end that God has promised. He also calls Himself the TRUTH, which means that there is just one version of truth that counts. Any 'truth' that does not line up with the Word of God must be thrashed. Any 'truth' that denies any of the pillars and principles which reveal the mind of God must be resisted. 

The Conclusion:

He is also the LIFE. It would mean that a man can only give you that which He has control and ownership over. This is the One who died on the cross and was then raised from the dead, and now has sealed eternal life for all who accept Him as Lord and Saviour. Taken together, all three dimensions support the position that we are nothing outside of God. We will not survive outside of God, and we cannot approach the Father outside of Jesus. He is the One whose sacrifice on the cross makes it possible for God to look at us. He paid the full price for sin, so all of us could have access to the throne of God's mercy. Now that the TRUTH is known, which is that Jesus is the WAY to eternal LIFE, what are you going to do with this information? If I reject this gift, no one else can save fromvthe coming judgment. Now that I have time, today has to be the day of salvation. The night is coming; before it does, make sure you have Jesus who is the all-in-all. God's time of favour is here.
