The Word!

The Word!

IN THE beginning [before all time] was the Word (Christ), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God Himself. John 1:1 AMPC

The Context and Focus:
Today's verse is a timeless piece. It is the vert first verse of the book of John, the one most likely referred to as 'The Beloved'. Today's verse is an inspired piece also, because it makes at least three statements, which have become the point of controversies and contentions all over the world, yet nobody has been able to propound or sustain better or improved positions. Let it be clear from the outset that it is the Holy Spirit who can inspire such words. A man who has not encountered the person and power of the Holy Spirit cannot really put into words who He is and how He operates. As a man walks with the Holy Spirit, there are new revelations about who God is and what He wants. As I know and follow these things, of course, God reveals more and more of Himself to me. Like John here, so does God want me to really know Him. A healthy knowledge of God keeps me from sin, and helps me walk worthy of the call of God upon my life.

The Message:
There is a statement which refers to the beginning of time as we know it. Scientists have tried to date the earth, but I wonder how you can accurately date a thing using materials and information that came after the earth was already in place. How does the created correctly predict anything about the Creator? Whatever he has revealed is sufficient for us to praise, worship and revere Him, and the discoveries we keep unearthing remind us of the eternal nature of God. He has no beginning or end; therefore the limits of human knowledge and ability do not apply to Him. He existed long before anything or anyone else came into existence, and even the earth and its complexities point to the wisdom and creativity of an amazing God. This leads to another statement, which underscores the identity of the person who is responsible for all we see or hear today. No man could have thought up the amazing discoveries we have today, without the input of the amazing Creator.

The Conclusion:
Of course, we have a statement that further underscores the Trinity: the Father, Son and the Holy Spirit,  present at the beginning of time, as we know it. The person of Christ is called the Word of God, because by and for Him, all things were made. The Word of God is the power behind the world. The Word of God is the irrevocable and irreversible power at work in the world, and the world must recognise and submit to Him, if it will ever fulfil its potential. At the first pronouncement of God, when he declared: "Let there be light", the word has remained efficient and effective, and has continued to sustain the times and seasons as we know it today. Today's verse calls him the Word, God, Creator, ageless, timeless, all at once. He has been introduced to the earth, and now, the earth has to make up its mind how it will respond. The statements above are absolutes, and I can choose to debate them, or I can simply take the Creator at his Word and submit to Him. As He is Eternal, so does He want me to live in that reality. Would I take him at His Word? God's time of favour is here.
