God's Desire!

God's Desire!

Amos 5:24 AMP
[24] “But let justice run down like waters And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream [flowing abundantly].

At some point, the house of Israel had lost its way. These were the people chosen by God as His treasured possession, and He had led the nation to a land flowing abundantly with milk and honey. Even though surrounded by many enemies at the time, the Lord secured the land for them and settled them in the land. However, like all things comfort, you have to be careful how you handle seasons of plenty and abundance. When things are quiet around you, and it appears that there are no battles to fight, be very careful. When all seems to be well, be cautious about actions and reactions. At some point in time, Israel became fat, and the Bible says that he kicked at God. He had become fat, thick, sleek, and obstinate. Then he abandoned God who had made him, and scorned the Rock of his salvation. That was the testimony about Israel. What is God's testimony about me today?

Of course, God does not joke with rebellion. The devil is a great example of how God handles rebellion, with the devil not given an opportunity to repent and return to God. In His mercy, God has provided a way of return for man, and it is advisable that we take full advantage of this opportunity. As you read the verse above, it starts with a BUT, which would  mean that whatever came before it is the opposite of what the verse above is saying. Israel had found comfort in idol worship and injustice. Those who should promote fairness were now taking bribes to pervert justice. Yet, they were faithful in offering sacrifices and keeping the solemn assemblies. How can I aim to please God only by offerings, while my daily lifestyle reeks of iniquity and rebellion against God's express commands? How can I seek to placate God by external works, when my life is full of internal strife, bitterness, or hatred. How can God accept an offering made from a polluted heart?

In clarifying God's expectations from us, let us consider the definitions of key terms in the verse above: justice is defined as: 'the maintenance or administration of what is just especially by the impartial adjustment of conflicting claims or the assignment of merited rewards or punishments'. Also, being righteous is defined as 'acting in accord with divine or moral law: free from guilt or sin'. Do we begin to see the standard that God will accept? I cannot afford to offer less than what God wants, if I want to get all that God offers. God will not demand from me that which He has not first supplied sufficient grace for. If He desires it, it is His joy to supply all I need so I can comply with His desire. He is the One whose supply can never run out. It brings God joy when my life's pursuits and priorities reflect a personal walk with God. Does yours do the same? God's time of favour is here.
