Life!

Life!

He who believes and trusts in the Son and accepts Him [as Savior] has eternal life [that is, already possesses it]; but he who does not believe the Son and chooses to reject Him, [disobeying Him and denying Him as Savior] will not see [eternal] life, but [instead] the wrath of God hangs over him continually .” JOHN 3:36 AMP

There is a life decision all of us must make at some point in time in our lives. It is a decison that transcends this earthly phase, as this present earthly life is temporal. There is nothing down here that can replace the amazing life promised by God to all who hold on to Him to the end of their lives. That decison is broken down in the first part of today's extract. It is an open invitation, an offer made to all human beings.

The package is only complete when I have accepted Him as Saviour. Many people know and acknowledge God; they have heard about Him and read extensively about Him, yet do not take that all important decision to accept Him as Saviour. Unfortunately, no matter what you believe, you are not safe unless and until Christ sits on the throne of your heart. I can be moral and incorruptible; but just like Nicodemus, Cornelius and several other people, it is not just enough to be good, the good God has to reign and rule in my heart. The decision to accept Him as Saviour already secures eternal life for me; every other thing that comes after is only good for the life down here.

The opposite is also true. If I decide to reject the offer, the conclusion is that there is no life. There is no middle ground. You are either in Christ or out of Him. Wherever you are, know this: there is an eternal destination at stake. I am not asked to bring anything, or to work hard to earn what is promised - no gift, no bribe. I just need to come to Christ, take him up on his offer and enjoy all He has promised down here and also secured for me where He is. May I not be so focused on the world and its distractions, that I forget where I am going. His time of favour is here.
