My Reality!
“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26 NIV
Today's extract is mostly pronounced at the end of church services, as people are dispersed. How did it come about? First, it was God's very express command to Moses, to tell Aaron how he was to bless the people. Think about this: Misses of course could pronounce blessings on the Israelites, but God gave that huge responsibility to the priests, led by Aaron. God had already established the office of the High Priest and the lineage of priests to serve in the tabernacle. The priest was to serve as the medium between the people and God, taking in offerings to serve as cover for sin, and then giving out God's instructions for the people. God has principles and processes for engagement, and if I will access all He wants to give me, I have to follow his principles.
So, Aaron and fellow priests were the ones mandated to bless the people. They were not to speak as they wanted, but to use specific words as given by God Himself. After all, it was not Aaron who had the blessing; God does. Aaron and priests were the keys and instruments to be used, but God is the giver of the blessing. We must keep in front of our hearts this process also: no man is as important as the One who is able to bless. I can't raise a mortal man over and above the One who is God over that mortal man. A man can only take out of that which he has been given. If I don't have it, I can't fake it. If God gives me, his backing is secure, and I can do and say all He commands. So who is backing me up? What of you?
The exact words to use are given by God. I take authority and instruction from God. He does the blessing, so I take of Him to bless others. I am a priest, serving God, not in the temple made by hands, but one set up by God to bring his praise and glory. God blessing me will affect the physical, mental, social, financial and spiritual dimensions. When God's face shines on you, you are marked for breakthroughs. When God turns his face on you, men will fall over themselves to bless you. When he is on your side, the storms in front of or around you may threaten to overwhelm you but as long as God is on your side, your peace is secured. These are a few of the dimensions to the pronouncements of God here. He has the capacity, ability and willingness to bless all men; the question will be if I will align myself with his will, so that all he wills for me can become my daily reality. God's time of favour is here.
