Power in the Word!

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. Hebrews 4:12 KJV

There are words, and there is the Word of God. Men are permitted to speak as they want or please, but only the Word of God is described this way. I note that for men, words are in plural, but for God, the sum total of what He said in the past, what He is saying now, and what He will still say, form the essence of His being and nature. You cannot divorce God from his nature, and His Word reveals His heart and nature. It is God's word, not the words of mortal men, who can boast about tomorrow but cannot guarantee it. 

The Word of God is presented here with words that describe animate objects, not non-living things. It means that the Word of God is alive, has life and gives life; after all, you can only give that which you have. If God created the heavens and the earth by His Word, imagine the power that is in His Word. The fact that God continues to sustain the world shows that the power in the Word is still active. That is why the Word is described with words such as quick, powerful and sharp. You don't use such words without personal experience. 

Look at the effects of the words used: God's word is sharp enough to divide soul and spirit, even making a fine distinction between bone and marrow. It is that sharp, yet so precise that it cannot miss its mark. It can penetrate deep enough to reveal my secret thoughts and motives to me, so I can make adjustments as required. It is able to discern the true reason for my exertion and not what I seek to force people to believe. With the Word of God, pretence and hypocrisy are worthless, except that they lead a man down the path of doom. 

With God, it does not matter what I convince myself about, but what God's Word has to say on a matter. To discern is to know. With this knowledge comes power, and power is only real when it can make a change. The change my life needs is only available for supply in and by the Word of God. The Word of God is the key to unlocking all that God is and wants for me. As long as God has spoken it to me, it will surely come to pass. Men of old who moved their generation did so on the strength of the Word of God which had become personal to them. It is the same for me today: I need to hear and get a Word from God for my life. With the Word, impact is non-negotiable. God's time of favour is here.
