Doing Right!

Doing Right!

and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching. Hebrews 10:24‭-‬25 KJV

The Context and Charge:
Life itself is a community. God in his wisdom made life to be enjoyed in the midst of community. God made the first man, then realized that man was indeed alone after some time. He had work to do, a garden to tend, animals to take care of and God's creation to nurture, but there was no one on his intellectual and spiritual level, apart from God, that he could relate with. God formed the woman and brought her to him, laying the framework for fruitfulness, multiplication and impact on God's earth. If this is God's model for life, we will do well to consider the full picture, and take steps to align with the divine mandate. Nothing outside of God's divine order will stand the test of time.

It is this community that today's extract further underscores. I cannot thrive on my own: God did not form life to be like that. I am an encouragement to someone else; I am a source of inspiration to another person. That which I have received from God was not meant to be hoarded, but shared. The love of God in me is only fully appreciated when it flows out to touch other people. When people see the output of my life, they must be encouraged to seek the same foundation for their own lives too. I must do good works, and by my example, encourage others to follow my example, as I also follow Christ. That is the standard. Can I say that my life is a reflection of the presence and power of God?

The Contention and Conclusion:
After the 'good works' in the verse for today is a full colon, which means what follows is an example of the good works expected of me, and it is fellowship. How can the world recognize and celebrate God's version of love if it is not seen? Can 1 person ever do it alone? With God on my side, I am a force, but imagine the harnessed power of individual forces coming together in one accord. Alone, I can only do so much, but together with other people of like minds, we can achieve so much more. That is why today's extract encourages us not to forsake the assembly, as some are doing, have done or are planning to do. I must not turn my back on God's prescription for his move in these last days.

Would we disagree? Definitely. Would we always see things from the same perspective? Never? Yet, God in his wisdom has called people with different backgrounds, races and history into fellowship with Him and one another. The common factor is the blood, and you are family with anyone you share blood with. That is the most powerful reason why, in spite of disagreements, we keep on. There is a day coming when all of these things will make sense; when there will be the eternal fullness of the earthly fellowship we currently enjoy. As I wait for that day, I keep doing right down here. I take from what God has given to others, and I supply that which God has deposited in me. God's time of favour is here.
