Taught 2!

Taught 2!

Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: Thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. Psalm 143:10 KJV

Context and Charge:
There is no one directly credited with this psalm, but the lessons of the psalm are quite fundamental tot the walk of faith. I note that trials and tough times are a fundamental part of this walk of faith. A lot of things happen in this earthly plane of life that will shake the foundations of our faith. There are a lot of things that happen that cannot be fully explained. Sometimes, things we consider 'evil' happen to even the best of people; sometimes, we ask the question: "If God is good, why do evil things happen in the world?" I just note that God does not always give direct answers to these questions, but the one thing that is certain is that His will is always paramount.

God's will is crucial to all that the world is. It is not always easy to accept and submit to God's will, but then, is there an option to God's will? I also note that accepting God's will is not always easy, and that is why the prayer here is important. The psalmist here asked God to TEACH him his will. Teaching is hard work, and takes a lot of time and effort. It means that there must be a submissive and willing learner, and a specific set of instructions. You do not teach abstracts and theories, but clear guidelines on what to do, how to do it, when to do it and the rewards and consequences of doing what has been taught, and in the right way. Am I teachable?

Conviction and Conclusion:
God's Spirit is a good spirit, because God is a good God. He does not force himself on anyone, but He leaves you in no doubt as to what I stand to gain from submitting to Him. Now, when I submit to Him, I am telling Him that no matter what happens to me on this journey of life, He is my God. You do not switch citizenship when it suits you, or only obey instructions which catch your fancy. If I am indeed a child of God, I undertake to obey ALL his instructions. When I take that decision, I see everything that God permits to happen to me from the point of view of God's goodness. He will not let me be out to shame, as all things will work together for my good. That is his standing promise.

Asking God to lead me is telling God very categorically that I submit to his leading and will follow wherever He leads. I am not forming an independent opinion on whether to obey, but I am taking an independent step to surrender to God of my own freewill. I choose to love, follow and obey God, without any coercion. There is a land of uprightness and righteousness, even on earth. There is a place at the centre of God's perfect will that God wants all of us to be. That land leaves no room for sin and unrighteousness. God's Word is law to all in that land. Like it has been said, you get to choose to commit and submit to the land. What is your decision? God's time of favour is here.
