Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully. 1 Peter 5:7 AMPC
The Inspiration:
At creation, man was required to keep the garden. All he needed for the life he was given was supplied by God, even a help meet for him. There was no record of any care or worry by man in the Garden of Eden; in fact, it was God who saw that it was not good for man to be alone, so He formed a woman out of man's ribs for him. Unfortunately, sin came in and a different perspective was birthed. One of the pronouncements by God as punishment for the sin of the man was that he would have to toil and labour for whatever fruit of the ground he would need. Out were the freebies in the Garden of Eden; in came the worries and the anxieties of each day's work, wondering if the efforts would yield any increase or gain. This is where sin leads: a place of self- effort, where there is no help from God if one does not retrace his/her steps back to God. It is therefore important to determine where I am now: in sin or in God?
The Contention:
That question above is the control for today's verse. Only in God does a man find comfort in the midst of pain and suffering. Only in God can a man find strength to continue, when all the odds are against him. As the verse says, it is hard to cast the whole of your care on a person you do not know, or someone whose identity and capacity you cannot determine. The first step is to therefore seek to know and submit to this God. Knowing Him means knowing who He is, what He can do, what He directs and commands, and where He leads. The natural man is quite territorial, and will not give up space without a fight. We hold on to our prejudices and opinions, afraid to let go of our identity and comfort zone, but here is a God who knows us more than we could ever know ourselves, because He formed and placed us where we are now. Nothing about me can shock him, because He is omniscient. He wants to do a work in me that only He can sustain.
The Conclusion:
The question, as always, is if I will let Him work. God does not force Himself on anyone; He tells me who He is, and what He can do; He can take good care of all that is entrusted into His hand. You can't be in control of your own life, and then wonder why things are not working well for you. If you have been willing to try all other options, and you don't like the fruit you are seeing, try God. What do you have to lose? If you will try God, don't start and stop halfway; go the whole hog. Make God your sole focus, not one of your many options. God is not an afterthought; He is watching His Word to bring it to pass. As the only part of His creation that the bible says was formed in His image, He will do all He can to bring me to the place of His perfect plan. He watches over all that is kept in His hand. Am I under his watchful eye? Remember, you can only place a demand on the rights and benefits of a country where you are a citizen. God's time of favour is here.
