But to as many as did receive and welcome Him, He gave the right [the authority, the privilege] to become children of God, that is, to those who believe in (adhere to, trust in, and rely on) His name— John 1:12 AMP
The Inspiration:
This is the introduction of the letter of John, not to any one in particular, but to all who would listen at the time, as well as now. It tells me about who Jesus, what He has done, what He offers to all who come to Him, and what we stand to gain if and when we come. The chapter lays it down as an undeniable fact that the world was created for the sole pleasure of God, and everything we can see, hear or perceive all exist at the command of the Creator. It would therefore mean that the best use of my life would be the discovery and daily pursuit of the purpose behind my creation, gifting and planting. What kind of device can thrive and survive outside the control, influence or direction of its designer? If this is true in the physical, imagine the power and effect of this in the spiritual. If I will be a blessing to my generation, the only way out is through the life of God in me. Do I have this life?
The Contention:
It is this foundation that defines the benefits. I also realise that it is a choice, as God will not force Himself on anyone, as I have to come to Him out of a heart that appreciates who God is and what He has done. There are people who may reject God's love to the end, and there are also some who may choose to come just before the end, and there are yet other people who embrace God all their lives, but in all, God does not change or stop loving me, until it is indeed too late. His arms are always open wide, ready to receive me if I come. I must come, and then I must receive and welcome Him into my heart. God offers me the whole backery, where I can sit and enjoy all I can get; I must not just enjoy the crumbs that fall from the table. To ALL who come, they are given a part of God's power and nature. It is an invitation into a new phase of life; one without limit or end. It is a life that reflects who God is.
The Conclusion:
Being called 'a child of God' is the greatest blessing of this life. It means that while I am on earth, I am the earthly representative of the amazing God. I was made in God's image and likeness, but sin came and tried to tamper with the plan. God did all He could to restore me to the original plan, and the added blessing is that when all is over, I get to inherit the kingdom of God through Jesus. His death and resurrection are the foundations of this confidence, and it is by faith that I walk in this reality on a daily basis. It is for those who 'believe in His name". Please don't be content with just being a member of a church; serve out a heart that knows what it has been forgiven. By faith, I have been given the right to become all that God intends; the entire treasures of this earth can never secure for me what only faith can. Have you believed? Am I looking forward to spending forever and ever with God? Remember, eternity is too long a time not to be sure where you will spend it. God's time of favour is here.
