Luke 12:40 AMPC
[40] You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour and a moment when you do not anticipate it.
The message in the verse above is for disciples only. It is apparent that only those who know and understand what is at stake are the ones who can get ready the right way, as laid out in the verse above. We live in a world where people have become so used to sin that its nature, scope, depth and reach have stopped to shock. We have now become so used to sin that we shrug and sometimes excuse the wrong behavior. However, as we see from the many messages that Christ has laid down for his children, the wages of sin remain death, and no amount of education, enlightenment, experience, empowerment, exposure or earnings can change these wages. I can either learn and amend my ways or simply press on with what I am used to, and then pay the eternal price for my decision whenever the end comes. Please give careful thought to your current path; would your present course lead you to eternal life with God?
Earthly servants understand the requirement for being in guard, and waitiing on the Master of the house. When the Master gives an instruction, and then leaves, it is the wise servants to sets out immediately to work on the Master's instructions. If there was no certain date fixed for the return of the Master, would it not be wise for the servant to get to work immediately? It is the same expectation for us who are earthly servants of the heavenly Lord. He has given us a mandate, and laid out quite clearly what His demands and expectations are. He has left us with time to carry out the mandate, but He has not specified when He will return. He is a faithful and true God, who does not lie, and if He says He is coming back one day, please be sure that it is not given to Him to lie. No word from Him fails, and if other promises of God are being fulfilled all around us, then be sure that this one too shall surely come to pass.
No one is given the day and time of the return of the Master. We all have been given our personal assignments, and we will do well to remember that stewards or servants will give accounts of what they have been tasked to do. The world's system at the moment is designed to keep its adherents focused on the issues and problems it has created, so that they would not be able to look to God for anything. If I do not expect anything or anyone, I will not give careful thought to my current situation. This is also why the verse above is directed at disciples, not the crowd. If Jesus could admonish those who had been following Him for some time to get ready, it means that anyone can, by carelessness, miss out on God's visitation. This message is even more poignant today, when you consider that the Master has clearly said that this current versions of heaven and the earth will be destroyed by fire. There has to be nothing on this earth that can provide succour to one whose heart is focused on eternity with God. Are you? God's time of favour is here.
