Psalm 139:9-10 KJV
[9] If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea; [10] Even there shall thy hand lead me, And thy right hand shall hold me.
The context in which David wrote the words of this psalm is not provided, but as you read the words, you find situations that ignited joy and sometimes words that indicated stress or depression. He may have been going through some tough situations, and began to really question a lot of things in His life. In one instance, he acknowledges God's power over all creation, confident in God's ability to know and sort out all the issues he would face. You find words like: "You know my sitting down and my rising up; you understand all my thoughts from afar. You are fully acquainted with all my ways. There is not a word in ny tongue that you do not know altogether." This is a testament to the knowledge, power, and wisdom of God, as well as the grace that has been given to man to have a taste or sight of this power at work on a personal level. Have I experienced this God this way?
Like David then, so would we have similar situations today. There is a lot of pressure and distractions around us to keep us focused on the wrong things, and occupied with the cares of the world. Daily bread can become a focus that takes our eyes away from the One who provides to the schemes that will guarantee weekly, monthly or annual supply. These are the times that, if not well managed, can lead to anxiety, depression and other health challenges. We can so focus on what we need and when we need them, that we forget that God has so graciously given us an assurance that He is able to meet all our needs, according to His glorious riches in Christ. Actually, there are times when we know these things, but our minds will just conveniently play tricks on us. We need to constantly remind ourselves of the provisions that have been made available.
That is where the verses above make sense. I have a God who is Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent. He is able to do all things, and for all who trust in Him, He is able to keep safe to the end. If I am in Him, nothing is able to touch me without first touching Him. That is the assurance I need to keep front and centre of my heart. He will not place on me more than what I can bear, and He will also not leave me to my devices. As the verses above also make clear, when I feel a bit overwhelmed, and I just want to be alone, even then, His hand is there to lead and guide me to the place of refreshing and quietness, where He can speak to, reassure and re-equip me with all I need for life and Godliness. There is nowhere safer than in God's hands. No one can lead me better than God can. No one is as committed and interested in my progress, health, prosperity and advancement as God is. I encourage you to seek Him. Your earthly and eternal lives will be glad you did. God's time of favour is here.
