Proverbs 11:25 AMP
[25] The generous man [is a source of blessing and] shall be prosperous and enriched, And he who waters will himself be watered [reaping the generosity he has sown].
In a world where selfishness and self-promotion are the order of the day, the clear message in the verse above goes against what we see around us. The world has elevated hoarding to an art, where we think the more we have means the more successful we are. We have allowed the world define and dictate what success truly means, and it is all about physical and financial metrics. This is where you find men who have fat bank accounts still not satisfied with they have at the moment, and keep seeking more. Whilst there is nothing wrong with wanting more, the motives and the means to that end have to be examined in the light of the Truth of the Word of God. Am I pursuing all that I need under the guidance of the One who owns and holds all things in the first place? Do I understand the position of things and people that have been placed on my life's path, so I can deal the right way with them?
The man who has learnt to be generous is the one who knows and understands the place and limits of whatever he holds in his hands. He knows that whatever he has now is just temporary, given to him for a time, a season or a purpose. As long as it is physical or material, it will always pass with the process of time. The lesson for me is to make good use of whatever is in my hand to be a blessing to the lives that are around me. It is even more poignant to note that if I hold anything in my hand right now, and my hand is full, I have to give it all up if I want to get more. No one gives anything to anyone whose hand is already filled up, unless there is space for that extra. If I do not leave room for more, how can God give me more? It is only by spiritual principles that a man can become even more blessed when he gives. This message will not sell to the One whose heart and hands are not fully surrendered to God. Are you?
Again, it has to be emphasised that you can only give what you have. The one who wants to water would have water in himself. He who would water would have first been watered. In effect, what you have here is a never-ending cycle of watering. A man takes from the never-ending fountain of life that is in Christ and becomes a blessing to someone else. The person who has now been blessed then takes of what s/he now has and blesses yet another person. That is how the cycle of watering is maintained. God is faithful to His Word and when he makes a promise, you can be sure He will keep His end of the bargain. If He says he will bless those who are generous, what do I have to lose? The person who waters has opened a fountain; s/he may not drink from the same fountain, but God will definitely connect the person to another source where the need will be met. That is God. Would you trust Him with all that you have and hold now? God's time of favour is here.
