Deuteronomy 31:8 AMPC
[8] It is the Lord Who goes before you; He will [march] with you; He will not fail you or let you go or forsake you; [let there be no cowardice or flinching, but] fear not, neither become broken [in spirit–depressed, dismayed, and unnerved with alarm].
It came a time in the life of Joshua that he had to take the mantle of leadership from the man Moses. Moses' shoes would be hard to fill; a man God spoke to face to face and called a friend of God. A man who God showed his 'back' because the man wanted to see the glory of God. Moses was just dealt with differently, because he sought a close relationship with God, yet when he did wrong, God did not hesitate to punish him, and denied him physical access into the promised land. Joshua too had seen God at work; he was there at the crossing of the Red Sea; he saw God deal with the rebellious such as Korah, Dathan and Abiram; he saw God deal with even Aaron and Miriam when they spoke against Moses. He was there at the rebellion of Israel on Mount Sinai, as well as at the point of entering into the promised land, and was the only one, apart from Caleb, above 20 years old, who left Egypt and also crossed into the promised land.
The above were just a few of the acts and facts about Moses that Joshua had to follow.
It is not a wonder that Joshua was afraid; who would not be? God did not compromise His principles for his friend Moses, and did not allow him to enter into the land. He would also definitely not do so for Joshua. Moses had to encourage the man Joshua, and he made it clear that it is God who both goes before, as well as with ALL who will walk with Him. This is where personal responsibility comes in. God is faithful to His Word; he does not send a man out without His backing, but this means that I do not dare go out without His backing too. Be sure of who is leading the charge; too many people are laying claim to power, authority and vision, and there is so much noise around. I owe it to my earthly impact and eternal life to be sure that God is with me at every stage of my life's journey.
God does not fail; He does not let go, and He will not forsake anyone who puts his trust in Him. These are just a few of the attributes of this God who calls us to Himself. When He commands an action, obedience unlocks the full potential and possibilities of all that God is and can do. He can be trusted to do what He has promised to do, but there is now an expectation from me. My part is to move forward without fear. It is not that things would not threaten your peace of mind, but the confidence you have in God's ability will keep your heart focused on what is ahead, not what is threatening. You have God in you, and that is the only thing that counts, because He is the only One that is eternal. Situations and circumstances have the nature of change; they are not built to be permanent. The amazing consistency of God is the reason why I have hope, and I can look forward to all that may come. Outside of God, there is no hope. Do you know and have Him? God's time of favour is here.
