But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful. Luke 6:35-36 KJV
Love is the central theme of the gospel. You can't spread the good news about God's greatest gift if you don't start on the basis of what God has said and done. His example lays the foundation of all He expects from us and all we can be.
Today's focus is on 'enemies'. When men have sworn to harm you, what is your response? When men only seek you to do harm, how do you react? It may seem impossible, but God never commands something he has not proven or given us grace to obey. If he commands it, he gives grace to enable us obey.
Check out the outer proof of an inner conviction: do good, lend, hope for nothing in return. When your inner man is assured of its eternal destination, the outer man is free from pretence and hypocrisy. When you live in accordance with God's dictates, you have risen above the world and its expectations. If I truly claim Christ as my own, then I must live as he lives, act like he acts, talk as he talks and love as he loves.
