In peace [and with a tranquil heart] I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O Lord , make me dwell in safety and confident trust. PSALM 4:8 AMP
You can't dwell in peace if you don't know the Prince of Peace. Today's extract rests on that basic truth. Storms can rage on all around you; you must not let the storms cause you to take your eyes off the one who calms every storm. The water may get into the boat of your life, but as long as you don't lose sight of the One whose words alone can calm every raging wind, you will be fine.
It does not say you won't see trouble; it only promises that even in it, you will sleep soundly. It says 'I will both lie down and sleep'. It is one thing to lie down, and it is another to find sleep. It is God who gives both. Men have built high walls, electrified fences and used dogs, snakes and other wild animals for security, yet on the day of reckoning, death would come knocking and, except for grace, could not be ignored.
I focus today on the One who truly secures me. The world will pretend to have answers, but it cannot solve the eternal question. It is He alone who matters in this life's journey. Every other person is just a part of history. His time of favour is here.
