But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5 NASB
Like every child knows, at a particular age, after your basic needs are met, you get only that which you can define. No parent makes assumptions for their children throughout their lives; at a particular age, the child grows to develop a mind of his/her own, and can articulate what is required for the next level. Just as it is in the physical, so is it in the spiritual. I read in several places where Jesus would meet a person with an 'obvious' need, such as blind Bartimaeus, and then ask: 'What do you want me to do for you'? Thank God for the benefit of knowing how the story ends, but imagine if you didn't.
At this very point in time, can you define what you need? Like James wrote here, in the spiritual, I must also be able to define what is lacking and know exactly how to meet the need. Part of the story is knowing the need; the other part is knowing who can meet it and how to ask Him to meet it. Today's extract answers all the parts. No matter how complex the generation or the dispensation is, God is the answer to ALL of life's needs. If I am able to define the need, God is able to meet it. If I do not know or agree that I have a need, how would God meet it, and even if He did, how would I recognise it to thank Him for it?
God has no problem with meeting every need; in fact, no demand on earth can exhaust the resources of heaven. The power of God is seen in the fingerprints given to every person, never repeated. If God can be that specific, he has enough resources to give to the whole world. All I have to do is ASK. I open my mouth and define what I need. If I know I lack wisdom, I go to the source and ask. If I seek him genuinely and sincerely, I have an assurance from the embodiment and source of wisdom that He will give me generously. He won't tell me that I am asking for too much, or that I am disturbing his peace. In fact, He loves to hear me speak to him.
It is such a personal walk that I cannot hide behind other people's experiences; I must seek my own. It is my own personal walk with God that raises stones of remembrance of the mighty things that God does in my life, and becomes a testimony to other people. My life becomes a public reflection of the private dealings of God in my life. God wants to be a part of my life; in fact, He wants to control it, but I have to give it to him willingly. He is the only One who can turn my life's mess into a message. All I have to do is ASK. God's time of favour is here.
