Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Matthew 5:6 KJV
There is always a spiritual dimension to anything that is a physical reality. The human body needs food and water to survive, and there are only a number of weeks that the body can do without both and still thrive. As it is with the human body, so is it with our spiritual body. Whether we know it or not, we all have a spiritual body. It is a part of us, ingrained when God made us in his own image and breathed upon us the breath of life.
We may not yet know it, but it appears to me that the first step in today's extract is to know and recognise the need to activate the spiritual body. Without it, how can I even know the right things to seek for? How would I know what is missing from my life if I am not pursuing the right things? The devil is smart; he keeps men busy and focused, but most times, we do not have the slightest idea that the things we are holding on to are not important.
We judge on the basis of human approval and applause, forgetting that God is not moved by such things. All God wants from me is to seek after the things that He considers important, and these centre on his nature: righteousness and holiness. Because his breath is in me, as long as I am alive, I will only be truly alive if I am using my life to seek after that which pleases the one who owns my breath. What are my present pursuits and priorities?
God's promise also stands out. He gives an assurance that all who seek Him in this way will certainly be filled. If I know that I need help, I will seek it the way the one who can help me has laid it down. If I seek filling, I must seek the right stuff, and in the right way. Hunger and thirst are deep desires that cannot be satisfied by any other thing except that which is appropriate and fitting for the need. God is able and sufficient for all needs, but I must seek Him with all that I am amd and have, sk that I can get all that He is and has. My life will definitely be better for it. God's time of favour is here.
