Peter speaks to the family unit: foundation for all that the society becomes. There is a natural presumption that when you do evil, evil comes back to you and when you do good, good also comes back to you. Well, in some instances, this presumption does not always apply. There is really no guarantee that when you do good, you will always get good in return. Even for God, the greatest good He could do was to give the life of His son as a sacrifice for sin, yet with all the good God did, the world has chosen evil by rejecting the free gift. You can't predict the choices everyone on earth will make, but you can be sure that for God, if I embrace His gift, I will surely end up with His good.
There is a level that I will get to that doing good will be the default setting for me, no matter what anyone else does. I don't do good out of a sense of hypocrisy or eye - service; I do not do the good because I want good in return, but because it is all I have. Just like God is called a good God, I also produce good because I am God's child. Each person gives what he has: the child of God gives good. The one with an allegiance to the devil can only give out that which he has: he may become a terrorist and a troubler of the one who fears God, but the one with an allegiance to God need not fear.
The God who holds and supports the one who fears Him has told me to be happy and not fear. Why is that? It is because greater is He that is in and for me, than He that is in the world. Suffering and hard times may and will come, but like the Great Physician and Pharmacist that He is, God tunes all He brings, permits or allows so that they work out His perfect will and lead to my blessing. It must be for the sake of righteousness, not for personal promotion. It must be something that leads to God's power and nature being made known. I must therefore eagerly look forward to all that God has ahead for me, as Hiss plans are always of good and not of evil.
God is too invested in me to allow just anything to happen to me. If I am His, a good end is certain. The system and platform of the world are temporarily under the control of the devil, who rules by terror and fear. The devil has nothing to give, except to take that which you have and give you fear. God has all I need and that is why His heart of love and care tells me not to worry about what the world can do. I believe then that the biggest question for me then is: Am I for this God or the devil? Am I living under terror, or living for the pleasure of the One who loves me and has secured eternity for me, and does He know me as His own? Remember, eternity is in view here.
