Let be and be still, and know (recognize and understand) that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth! Psalm 46:10 AMPC
The Inspiration:
The sons of Korah are credited with the words of this psalm, and the message in the verse above was potent then, and even more so in the present age where haste is seen as the most viable channel for success. The world today teaches us that you need to hustle hard in order to move ahead. In a world that tries to categorize men based on their networth, network and earning power, you find men chasing after that illusion called success, not sure if and when they get it, because the definition is not set. The world has no set standards, so it will keep changing the goals as far as it can, and men who have no focus will keep striving to attain that which is not even defined. However, for a category of people, there is a need to re-define terms. What would success mean for those with a living, thriving relationship with God? How would you define your hustle?
The Contention:
Please note that there is no crime in a good hustle. The bible defines assignments and projects which require haste. The king's business demands haste. For a generation that is more hooked on speed than direction or impact, there is a need to take a step back and evaluate what is really important. Am I seeking to be recognized as first among equals, so as to take personal glory, or am I seeking to bring glory to God by dedicated and focused service? In both situations, I am giving my best, but the motive and endgame are different. God seeks to take glory in and through all I do, and my presentation is the platform for His presence to be made perfect. God wants to be known and celebrated all over the world, and as His representative, He counts on me to be His hand, heart, eyes and lips. Is my life a good reflection of God? Can God point to me as a good ambassador of His?
The Conclusion:
As I hurry, I remember who I work for. I am not seeking glory for myself, but by labour and sacrifice, I point men in God's direction. If God needs me to take a break, I do so. If He needs intensity, He supplies the grace. My life becomes the platform for the manifestation of God's grace in its full effect. He actually does not need my hustle to be God; it is a privilege to work for Him. He needs me to move, speak or act at His command; it means to be still until He directs, and once He directs, I act accordingly. He is the Creator of all things, and He is exalted above all. I realise I am always in His presence, so there is no need for pretence. I come before Him as I should: quiet and calm. I surrender my life to Him and ask Him to do as He pleases, so that in and through me, He will be glorified in the earth. He has said it; He has the capacity and capability to bring it to pass. God's time of favour is here.
