In His Name!

For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.

The Inspiration:

It is easy to focus on the power of two or three and in fact, the bible has so many stories about the achievements of two or three people. A verse says: "can two walk together unless they agree". Another verse says that "a three-piece cord is not easily broken". The story of the tower of Babel is a good example of the strength behind numbers, and even God was careful to highlight the force behind such numerical commitment. God said quite clearly that if as a people, this number had begun to do anything, then nothing will be impossible for them. God knows the power behind the unity of two or more people, but we can easily gloss over or ignore the fact that the secret behind the force and power of two or more people is actually the commitment, focus and dedication of one person. It is the power of one that leads to the impact of two or three.

The Contention:

When two or more people gather together as the verse above states, it is not first about the number, but the foundation of the individuals coming together. Is there any of them who knows God? All you need is one; one person with a living, breathing and thriving relationship with God. That relationship is the fire that will ignite the fellowship of two or more people. How can God be present in a place where he is not recognised or given His due? How would God be pleased to dwell in a place where sin thrives, or where confusion is the order of the day? God is not the author or promoter of confusion, and as He has made very clear in the Bible, his eyes are too pure to behold iniquity,  but for all who will truly seek Him, He promises to reveal Himself to them. In that light, just picture the power behind the coming together of two people who are sincere in their search for God. 

The Conclusion:

Imagine the power available when two or more people with a healthy relationship with God gather together. Even if it is one person that God is pleased with, imagine the miracles that are available for that gathering. Don't just settle for numbers; make sure that God is pleased to associate with your number. Don't be content to just join a popular movement, but make sure that God is in the midst. The purpose of the gathering then comes to play: gathering in His Name. This is not to promote self, or to drive likes or applause, but to glorify the name of the Lord. His name is called a strong tower that the righteous run into and are safe. It is not a place to push personal, selfish agendas, but to draw men's attention to the name and all it offers. In that name is life eternal, as well as all that this earthly life requires. Why will God not bless the gathering of people that draw attention to His Name and give Him glory?
