Faith

Faith!

NOW FAITH is the assurance (the confirmation, the title deed) of the things [we] hope for, being the proof of things [we] do not see and the conviction of their reality [faith perceiving as real fact what is not revealed to the senses]. Hebrews 11:1 AMPC

Background:
Reading through the book of Hebrews reveals some truths about faith as the foundation of a healthy walk with and work for God. Of course, if we are to fully understand the impact and meaning of faith, we need to look no further than the view of God Himself, the One who calls us to walk with and work for Him. Today's verse defines faith, and one thing is clear from this definition: it is not subject to debate, and it leaves no room for contention or confusion. It states categorically what faith is, and then leaves me to review my life and see where I stand. Two of the key words in the first part of the verse are ASSURANCE and HOPE. How does a man become assured of something he is still hoping for? In a world that is easily distracted by the lust of the eyes and flesh, there is a focus on what can be seen, tasted, felt, heard or smelt. Our senses can sometimes deceive us, and this is why the senses alone cannot be the basis of our walk with and work for God. There has to be something deeper and bigger than what these senses can perceive.

Focus:
You are assured of whatever you hope for because you have the Presence of the One who births and sustains hope. It is not human so nobody can give it. It is not something you can purchase with a lot of money, and it is not what influence or networth can secure for you. It is the product of a relationship with God; a walk that recognises the need for the help of One who knows the end from the beginning and can secure eternal life for anyone who trusts Him. Look at the words used: title deed. How can you claim title to a thing you cannot physically define, unless you have this calm assurance and confirmation that it is already yours? Look at the words in the other part of the verse: PROOF and CONVICTION. The law requires physical proof of whatever position you take, and you cannot come to argue faith. Hearsay is inadmissible in court, as you are allowed to speak on that which you have seen, heard, tasted or touched. When it comes to faith, there has to be this strong confidence in your position, because you know the One who has brought you to that point.

Conclusion:
That is what faith is all about: walking daily in the confidence that God is able to keep all his promises. I am not moved by what goes on around me, but I am more concerned about what work God is doing inside me. It is the fruit of God's work in me that men will see and then give glory to God for. He says it is yours, it is. If He says go forward, He has already gone ahead of you. If he says wait, it is because there is something amazing just ahead for you. With God, there are no errors, near-misses, accidents or mishaps. I am the product of careful planning, with earthly relevance and eternal life as the benefits of this relationship. Living by my physical senses only is very unhealthy and dangerous. I need to go beyond feelings into faith; the walk with God that is rewarding and satisfying, and with eternal benefits too. On a final note, it is ideal to note the audience: those who believe in God through Jesus Christ. Are you one? Am I? God's time of favour is here .
