The King of Glory!

The King of Glory!

‭‭Psalm‬ ‭24:9‭-‬10‬ ‭KJV‬‬
[9] Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; And the King of glory shall come in.
[10] Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah

The Context and Focus:
Again, these are the words of David, the man after God's heart. It is always important to lay this fact out, so we can also learn how to approach and hold God's attention. As we know, David did not always claim perfection, but he had perfected the art and act of making the right approach by making the right play. He had walked with God for some time, and he knew a little bit about what made God tick. Praise and thanksgiving are some of the things God would have me give him, and David perfected that into an art. As it was then, so is it still now. God is still looking for men and women who will make the same commitment. If I am looking for open doors and open heavens, I am not sure that there is a better way to guarantee these. The entire chapter from where the verses above is taken is a testament to the person, identity and demand of this God. Have you met this God? Does He know you as His own? Like David, have I come to know, understand and fully appreciate the value of praising God for who He is, what He has done, what He is doing right now, and the amazing promises that the future holds for me?

The Message:
First, there is a declaration of the person and identity of God. He is the owner of all that my eyes can see or my hands can hold. He is the One who opens a door and no one can shut it. He is the One who makes declarations today, and for all of eternity, there is a power that will bring it to pass, no matter the level of opposition or resistance. Secondly, for those who will access this power and grace, there are standards to follow. The Holy God cannot behold sin; therefore, the person who would have access to all that has been promised has to live a life free from sin. How can God continue to bless a life that has no regard for or fear of Him? How can God control or inspire a life that is not under His total control and influence? How do I have access to, and also command the resources of a kingdom to which I am not a loyal subject? It is clear that I can only have access to resources and blessings that come to those who have made Jesus Lord and Saviour. Yes, there are general blessings everyone will get by virtue of humanity, but would you want only that which perishes with this present earthly phase, or would you also strive to lay hold of that which has eternal value?

The Conclusion:
This understanding then leads to the verses above. There can be long-standing issues in my life, but when I surrender control to the One who is called the King of glory, this is the beginning of the change my life needs. When the King of glory comes knocking, it does not matter how long or how hard the mountain has stood; nothing and no one can stand against the King. He is called King, because it is about power, authority, ability and capacity to make pronouncements that carry the force of the law. They may be everlasting doors, but before the everlasting King, they must submit to the authority of the King. The identity of the King is also made clear in these verses, so that there is no confusion. He is also called the Lord of hosts, because there is an army under his command, the number of which it is difficult to determine. Revelation refers to 'the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands'. That is the God whose authority and power cannot be resisted. I need to know and submit to this King personally, if I want to enjoy his rule and reign. He will reign, no doubt. The question is whether I submit to Him willingly now, or be compelled to do so, and them still lose. God's time of favour is here.
