Revelation 3:20 AMPC
[20] Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears and listens to and heeds My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will eat with him, and he [will eat] with Me.
It is interesting to note that the verse above was written to a church in the then Aisa Minor and by the Apostle John through inspiration of the Holy Spirit. There is nothing that is beyond the knowledge of God, who owns the whole universe and holds all in His palm. No single thing happens without His permission, and no motive is hidden from Him. Men may applaud the action, but God judges the intent of the heart. Men may judge the output, but God is more interested in the origins. This was to a church that maybe the members were comfortable in their current state, and saw nothing wrong with where they were. The services must have been exciting, and numbers must have been added on a weekly or monthly basis. However, one thing is clear from the verse above: the owner of the church found Himself outside the church, and was trying to catch the attention of the people inside.
God had been shut out of the house and was knocking, seeking to come in and take His rightful place. Think about this for a moment, and consider what this means to you. Do you know who God is? If you claim you are His child, is He really Lord and Master over all that you are and have? Does He have limitless access and control over you, or are there areas that you have shut Him out of, because those are the areas that are under your own control? Remember, God does not force Himself on anyone, or go against the exercise of my freewill. That is why the Lord of all the earth, the Righteous Judge, will stand outside and knock, waiting to come in. He is the Door, yet He will wait for you to open up your own door to Him. He is the Way, yet He will wait for you to make way for Him to show Himself strong in your life. This is a decision nobody can take on your behalf; it is personal.
He knocks on the door of your heart and wants to come in. Do not make assumptions that He is in there; be very sure. The benefits of allowing Him come into your heart are both earthly and eternal. He will come in and share with you whatever you have, and He will give you all that He has. Think of this: you have access to the riches of heaven, the amazing abundance of grace, sustenance on earth and the hope of eternal life with God. What can beat these? What can a man have that can be better than these? Do not listen to the lies of the devil, offering you things that he does not own and cannot guarantee. As always, it is a personal decision. Anyone who hears the knock and opens the door gets all of God. Do not be too busy to listen for his knock and voice. Do not be distracted by service that you forget the benefits and grace of relationship. Get it right; life will be alright. God's time of favour is here.
