Proverbs 16:9 AMPC
[9] A man's mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure.
Man was created in the image of God, after His likeness. When God breathed into man and man became a living soul, the nature and creative power of God was put in man. That is why the world has witnessed amazing and exciting breakthroughs in various fields of human endeavour, including medicine, sports, science, technology and travel, among many others. As man initiates an idea or a concept in his mind, he is able to define what is required to actualize that idea. This is one of man's greatest blessings, and if not handled the right way and placed in the hands of the Maker and Potter, it can become a veritable tool in the hands of the devil to wreak havoc. We have seen the impact and effect of weapons of mass destruction used in wars, and the devastating effects of the mind of a man who is not surrendered to God. A man who is disconnected is a dangerous man.
It is fine for a man to plan his way, because that is the default setting of every man made in the image and likeness of God. However, the greatest use of a man's mind is to submit it to God, so that God can guide its focus, planning and delivery. Life has become both complex and simple by the things man has conceptualised and created, but God still needs to control that mind to bring it into his perfect will and under his perfect direction. How does God direct a thing that has not been placed in His care? How does He help a man who does not submit to His leadership and instruction? Remember, God does not force Himself on anyone, or go against the exercise of my freewill, but you can be sure that whatever has been given to Him will be kept safe by Him. Only in the hands of God can 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes feed over 5,000 people. It matters in whose hands it is placed.
I must go with God every step of the way. I am limited in scope, understanding and reality. I only see as far as my human mind can fathom but there is a God who is not limited by time, space or circumstances. He says I should submit, and if I obey, I have access to both earthly and eternal blessings. As I read the bible, I come across clear words such as in Psalm 37:23 KJV, which says 'The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: And he delighteth in his way, Or Proverbs 20:24 KJV, which says: 'Man's steps are ordered by the Lord. How then can a man understand his way?', and even Jeremiah 10:23 AMP, which says 'O Lord, I know that the path of [life of] a man is not in himself; It is not within [the limited ability of] man [even one at his best] to choose and direct his steps [in life]'. No matter how long I live or how hard I work, I will never have all the answers. My best step is to hand it all to the One who has it all, and can bring to pass all that is in line with His will. God's time of favour is here.
