The Word!

The Word!

John 1:14 AMP
[14] And the Word (Christ) became flesh, and lived among us; and we [actually] saw His glory, glory as belongs to the [One and] only begotten Son of the Father, [the Son who is truly unique, the only One of His kind, who is] full of grace and truth (absolutely free of deception).

The inspiration behind the introduction to the book of John has to be divine. No earthly source could have imagined the identity and power of the person of Jesus, who is also called the Word of God. His origin cannot be determined, because He existed long before earthly records were even initiated. His power cannot be fully comprehended by human intelligence, because He made the earth and all that is in it, and then formed man in His own image. How can the created become wiser or stronger that its Creator? By the Word were all things on the earth made, and given their distinct identity. The Word is also called the Life, and in and by Him do all flesh have life in itself. Of course, the Word is also called the Light, which gives men direction and guidance. Is there a part of my human existence that the Word has not covered?

For that which I need for life and Godliness, I get adequate supply from the One who is and has all that I need. He could have stayed in heaven and found a way to reconcile me to Himself after man sinned, but He did what no flesh could do: He sent Himself to the earth, in the form of those He wanted to save, so that He could offer the perfect sacrifice for sin and restore them to their rightful place. The Word was the source, inspiration and tool for creation, but He subjected Himself to the human nature, but without the usual, natural, and inherited nature of sin, so He could pay the full price for sin, in line with His own laid down process for redemption. He took off His divine nature, and took on the human nature, and He lived, walked, talked and related with  His creation. How do you explain this? What kind of love is this?

Even the circumstances of His birth did not indicate anything special; he was born in a manger, given the basic minimum of care, but there were people who knew that a special child was born, and they came from far to give Him gifts. Some saw an ordinary child, and even as He grew in the community, the familiarity with His origin became a hindrance to knowing Him. But for as many as were given grace, they could see His glory. The writer here was one of them; he saw the glory of the one and only begotten Son of God, full of grace and truth. Like John, we are called upon to know the Word intimately. Surface knowledge will not do; mere hearing about Him is not sufficient. A personal relationship with Him is the key to accessing all He is and has. Like John, I must take time out to develop a relationship with the Word, the Person of Jesus Himself. Do you know Him? Do I? God's time of favour is here.
