Conduct yourself with wisdom in your interactions with outsiders (non-believers), make the most of each opportunity [treating it as something precious]. Let your speech at all times be gracious and pleasant, seasoned with salt, so that you will know how to answer each one [who questions you]. COLOSSIANS 4:5-6 AMP
Paul understood the power of positive impact on people. He knew what it meant to make a good impression on people so they could look forward to meeting you again. For those who claim to know, follow and love God, life is an opportunity to impact other lives. A key factor in this is wisdom. The only constant definition of wisdom is Jesus Christ. He is referred to as the wisdom and power of God. What today's extract tells me is that all my life must be about showing off Jesus, in my interactions, conduct, conversations and the company I keep.
Oh yes, my speech/words act as the window to the state of my heart. My mouth output is a function of my heart input. How do I speak with grace? How do I season my speech with salt? When I am conscious that I am also a product of grace, I will be quick to extend the same grace to other people. When I am conscious that I am the salt of the earth, placed to make impact and change lives and bring flavour to a wounded world, I must be careful what I do and say.
Men will watch out for me; the devil will seek to trip me up and make me fall; men will put words in my mouth by seeking to upset me. In all, what drives me should be the assurance of God's presence in me, not the distractions all around me. Men will question my actions and motives, but then I remember: I answer first to God. What would be God's opinon about me today? His time of favour is here.
