Why the Word?

Every part of Scripture is God-breathed and useful one way or another—showing us truth, exposing our rebellion, correcting our mistakes, training us to live God’s way. Through the Word we are put together and shaped up for the tasks God has for us. 2 Timothy 3:16‭-‬17 MSG

Too many times, people hold on to the petty argument on the inconsistencies in the written Word, ignoring the fact that what is written was done by mortal men inspired by an immortal God, showing man's weaknesses and God's amazing grace. The stories in the Bible aren't about perfect people, but about God's grace in an imperfect world. No matter what I read, I ask God to show me what he wants me to learn about Him, and how that lesson will impact the world around me.

Reading today's extract answers those fundamental questions of the Who, Why and How. Who wrote the words we read today: mortal men inspired by an immortal God. Why were these words written: so we could know the eternal purpose and plan of God for our lives. How would we know: by reading and applying the lessons to our daily lives. There is no area of our lives that the Word does not address, either showing God's truth,  exposing the rebellion in our own hearts, correcting our mistakes or training us to know and live God's way.

Ultimately, we belong to God and he determines the direction of our lives. He is looking for our absolute surrender and trust in Him. He is the owner of the assignments and the place of impact, and he knows precisely who will fit into a particular part of that assignment. The Word is the model and the furnace, constantly working on and in us, shaping and molding and filling us to be all that God wants us to be. I cannot be complete if I do not surrender to this process. I will always be lacking if I shortchange this phase.

Lord, I can only ask you to work in and on me, making me exactly what you want me to be. Help me surrender totally to you, so I can make impact for you the way you formed me to. His time of favour is here.
