But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge]. Galatians 5:22-23 AMPC
My fruiting is a function of my rooting. Deep roots lead to good fruit. From all I have learnt of God, one thing stands out very clearly: my impact is a function of God's Presence in my life. All over the world, you read of people who have and are making impact. The world's standard of measuring impact is all wrong, as it focuses more on the external than the eternal. We celebrate men based on the external, the world too is moved by the external, while God is so much interested in working from the internal.
What today's extract talks about is the FRUIT of the Spirit, not the product of degrees, possession, influence or connection. No matter who you know on earth, you cannot lay your hands on the fruit. It is birthed and sustained by the presence of the Holy Spirit IN a man. Note also that He has to be IN you if your life must bear the fruit referred to here.
I also note that nine different attributes are mentioned in today's extract. Nowhere in grammar can you refer to nine things in the singular, but when you are dealing with God, reason and logic will not help much. Fruits would mean that different trees in your life will produce different fruits, but if you refer to one fruit, it means that there is only one source of nourishment and a certain output is expected. If indeed the Holy Spirit lives in me, then my life must produce ALL that has been indicated in today's extract.
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control; nine parts to the same fruit. As I check my life today, am I producing some or all of this fruit? Am I selective on the kind of output my life has, or has God got total control of my life, so that his life flows through me? My life's output will be the loudest answer to that question.
No law on earth can make this fruit an offence. No human law can understand it because it goes against human reason and logic. In the midst of hatred and evil, love and joy will show the way. Peace is first an internal condition before an external manifestation. Patience in the face of persecution is only possible when I am certain about my end. How's my fruit? His time of favour is here.
