One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek, inquire for, and [insistently] require: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord [in His presence] all the days of my life, to behold and gaze upon the beauty [the sweet attractiveness and the delightful loveliness] of the Lord and to meditate, consider, and inquire in His temple. Psalm 27:4 AMPC
Life is about priorities. I was not equipped to handle all of the world's problems. I am only gifted and placed in a particular place and at a particular time in order to fulfil a particular purpose. My life's greatest discovery would therefore be the discovery of that particular purpose. The question would then be: 'How do I go about discovering what I am gifted, located and shaped for?'. I believe today's extract gives an eternally potent response.
David says there is just one thing that is important to him, one desire that sits above every other desire, and it is to DWELL in the house of the Lord, not as a wanderer to turns in for just a night of two, or a servant who does not abide in the house forever, but as one who knows he is a Son and will inherit the blessings of relationship. When a person is located right, the benefits of location will automatically be his/her portion.
Please note that it is not enough to come in; you must be engaged in the right activity. There were people in the temple in Jesus' day, buying and selling, yet a few steps away, others were receiving their miracle of healing and deliverance. Don't be content with a seat in church; give the seat of your heart to God and let him direct your life.
Check out why David wanted to come in: to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to meditate and enquire in His temple. None of these things is a rush job; it takes time to gaze upon beauty, it takes time to discover the hidden treasure in God's Word, and it is a lifelong journey to know God. You don't do it from afar; you have to come in to discover these.
David mentioned one desire, but the truth is there were 3 different phases to that desire. You cannot go after God and remain the same. You cannot find out in your own terms; the search will only produce results when done the way God prescribes. Everyone who was ever used by God was formed, prepared, equipped and commissioned from God's Presence. Without Him, a life will amount to nothing, no matter how popular that life is by human standards.
I check my life again in the light of God's Word: am I rightly located and pursuing the right things? His time of favour is here.
