Little is Much!
He who is faithful in a very little [thing] is faithful also in much, and he who is dishonest and unjust in a very little [thing] is dishonest and unjust also in much. Luke 16:10 AMPC
Indeed, great things have small beginnings. It is very difficult, or almost impossible for you to find anything of great value that did not have a story of insignificant start or a slightly difficult journey. Just as this applies in the physical, so does it apply to the spiritual. Why would Jesus take time out to establish this truth to his disciples: 12 men who had walked with him for some time now?
I believe the first and most pressing reason would be so that the disciples would know the HOW behind the WHAT they were called to do. I could spend my whole life working and labouring and at the end of it all, not get any kind of reward from God. I could look quite busy, show off great work and be applauded by men, but the fundamental question would be: what is the state of the heart from where the motives and intentions flow from? Am I given to clever pretence, eye service or hypocrisy?
Unfortunately, no matter what I tell myself, God knows too much to be deceived. He created the heart so its secret desires and priorities are laid bare before Him. God's greatest blessings are in the most insignificant of things; and here, you have to be careful about the things you view as insignificant, because it is never about my perspective, but God's view. He is the One who knows just where on the ladder He wants me to start, and He alone knows how the journey ahead will go.
If He cannot trust my heart in matters that are insignificant now, how does He hold my heart when I am popular? If He cannot trust my choices in the daily routine of life, how do I expect Him to trust me in the seasons of pleasure and wealth? It is a daily and consistent walk with God that insulates your heart from the inconsistencies all around. If my heart is totally given to God now, and I place a guard over it daily with His help, it won't matter what comes up. So, how's your heart? What are its present priorities? His time of favour is here.
