Faith!

Faith!

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6 KJV

Today's extract is taken from God's hall of faith. First note that what qualified men to be mentioned here isn't man's opinion but God's prerogative. So, before we start to ask questions such as why men like David or Samson or women like Ruth, a Moabitess and Rahab a prostitute qualified for mention here, remember: we all answer to God, not man. Man's opinion remains based on ephemeral themes like connection, family background and networth. God is only concerned about the status of my relationship with Him.

Faith is defined in the very first verse as 'assurance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen'. It then means that faith cannot be tied to the world's assurances, as there is nothing of value to the world if it is invisible and intangible. If it cannot be touched, felt, tasted, seen or smelt, it cannot be 'scientifically proven'. Unfortunately, the world's standards cannot explain the divine. Everything about God, from the salvation he offers, to the hope of eternal life, and heaven are all based on invisibles: faith is the one ingredient that is needed if my walk with and work for God will make sense.

If I do not have faith in God, what do I have? If I cannot hold on to God's assurances and promises, sure and certain that He can do all He's promised, what's the purpose of my holding on? If all I trust are my instincts and senses, then it means that I cannot truly walk with God. There are things the world will never be able to explain: the joy I have in the face of trials; the peace I have in the midst of storms; the hope that one day soon, heaven becomes my eternal home. Nothing down here can sustain that assurance; only faith in God can.

So, if I will come to God, I must come with the full knowledge of who He is and what He can do. He's a rewarder of all who seek Him diligently, and becasue He knows the heart of man, He cannot be deceived. If you will come, come with all you are, or come when you are ready. Remember, you do not have forever to make up your mind; one day soon, faith will meet reality and eternity will be forever settled. What will it be for you? His time of favour is here
