Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer. Psalm 19:14 KJV
The Inspiration:
Again, we read a psalm of David, a man after God's heart. Two quick lessons from the life of this man are that position, power and influence didn't make him think he could become independent of God's help. Also, he knew what God wanted and he gave out praise and thanksgiving very often. You would hardly read any psalm of David and not find at least 1 verse extolling the virtues of God. What is even more important to note is that even when David sinned, he wouldn't allow the weight of sin to block him from approaching the throne of God's mercy. These are attributes that are becoming increasingly scarce these days. For me, another day of review and reckoning is here: how's my heart at the moment? Can it be trusted to offer acceptable sacrifices to a holy and perfect God?
The Contention:
David had just spoken of the benefits of knowing God personally. In the word of God, His heart and mind are revealed to us and we get to know what God demands of us. He speaks to us out of the abundance of love in His heart, and He lays down the rules of engagement for all who desire to follow and learn from Him. The Word of God has several benefits, as listed in the verses just before today's extract, and I will do well to consider the blessings and benefits that accrue from forming and sustaining a personal relationship with the Word of God. If I seek that which is right, true, perfect, pure and clean, God's Word is the only person that ticks all those boxes. The warnings, counsel, advice and rewards spelt out in the Word of God are all assured if I will align my heart and life with the requirements.
The Conclusion:
When all of the above are in place, with my heart and life focused on God's desires, then I can deal with the requests in the verse above. Can I honestly pray to God to accept the medications of my heart as well as the words of my mouth right now? Are my daily words the kindthat glorifies God and makes Him known? It means that both my heart and lips are aligned and submitted to the authority of God's Word. I don't have a view contrary to the express provisions of God's Word. I don't flaunt my achievements or qualifications, but all I seek is what gives God glory. God will not accept anything less than my all, and He will not share control with any other power or authority. If it will be God, let it be all God and no one else. My life then is an acceptable offering. God's time of favour is here.
