Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. Matthew 6:34 NIV
The Inspiration:
It was early days in the lives of the men who had just been chosen as disciples of the man from Galilee. There was no way to prove He was the real deal, as there were no written accounts directly about him, apart from the words of some prophets written in a scroll, and the testimony of John the Baptist. These were all these men could rely on, as they were called to follow this unusual man, who taught with power and authority, not like their teachers of the law. His teachings were direct and impactful, and He would tell them about how to impact the earth, as well as make eternity. This was not a teacher who would only make a case for earthly impact, but He would also teach his followers how to make heaven. Today's verse is one of such teachings: how to live in the present, with an eye on eternity.
The Expectation:
It is a waste of time to worry about what you have not seen. The world will tell you to plan, but it cannot really prepare you for all that life will throw at you. I may have an idea of how to plan for some of the unknowns, but I cannot have a clear view of all that lies ahead. That is the prerogative of God, and whatever He chooses to reveal. All He asks me to do is to keep my eyes and heart focused on the miracle of today. Today is packed full of God's mercy, which He releases every morning. As long as I am given the grace to wake up from sleep, I have been given access to a fresh supply of mercies. Why would I leave all these, and be worried about a day that I have not yet seen, but which already has its daily supply waiting for its manifestation?
The Conclusion:
Tomorrow has its own troubles. God has woven that continuity into the fabric of our lives, as seen after the flood when he made that promise that as long as the earth remains, day and night will never cease. Every day I am given to live in is a refresh and restart; an oppourtunity to get it right even if I do not start it right. This is the amazing thing about God: no matter how bad the day goes, He does not stop being God, and He does not withdraw His mercies from me. Let it just be known that He spoke these words to his disciples, men who had made up their minds to follow Him. If I will place a demand on God's supply, I must be His child. His mercies cover everyone, but His children enjoy a limitless supply of mercy. Am I one? Are you? God's time of favour is here.
