John 13:17 NKJV:
If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.
There is a mad rush for the acquisition of book-knowledge these days. A lot of money is spent on formal education and systematic learning. We spent months poring over books, doing research, writing term papers, burning the midnight oil and really pressing ourselves hard to get degrees. Unfortunately, formal education only makes our knowledge official, it does nothing to deal with the fundamental human condition of sin and does nothing to explain faith and grace.
Today's Word emphasizes the place of faith and works, believing and doing. It is easy to read and study the Word of God; it is even easier to memorise it and be able to reproduce it at a moment's notice. The brain can do that. The issue has to do with your heart. When I read the word, what does my heart do with it? Do I subject it to reason and logic, trying to process the Word with my limited understanding, or do I take the Word as it is, knowing that the One who said it has the power to do it? Do I study the Word with the mind of knowing more about the author and his plans for my life or do I just conveniently skim over the paper pages, looking for comfort for my issues and seeking to justify my prejudices?
There's nothing wrong with seeking knowledge, it must however be backed up by action that justifies the acquisition of that knowledge. You are only assured of happiness and joy if you can act on what you already know. That is faith in action. You know, then you act. Many of us claim we are acting in faith, but we base our actions on the wrong premise. If you don't know the author of the Word, how then can your actions be based on thd truths of his Word? If it is the letter of the word you are holding on to, remember, the letter kills. Only the Spirit can give life.
Seek out the Truth himself today and know his plans for you. Then, act on his word. Your breakthrough is assured and your joy is certain. Rejoice, for his time of favour is here.
