Carry one another’s burdens and in this way you will fulfill the requirements of the law of Christ [that is, the law of Christian love]. GALATIANS 6:2 AMP
As long as I am alive, in the flesh, there will always be pressure. It is a part of the process of growing up, of developing roots, and learning all that God intends. It is therefore easy to ignore the needs of other people and focus on your own. It is more convenient to keep an eye on your own needs and ignore those needs around you.
Today's extract admits the fact that life itself has burdens, but it also underlines the truth that God calls me to a higher standard, a noble calling. He expects me to lend a helping hand to someone else, even while I am carrying my own burdens. Oh, there is no guarantee that my own burdens will automatically disappear; all he asks me to do is to help where I can. The law of Christ, which is the law of love, seeks the good of others over and above my own. Christ's example, dying for people who didn't care who he was then, lays the foundation for what God expects from me.
So, I go out into the world today. There will be lives crying out for a touch, a kind word, a small gift of time and attention, maybe money. May my eyes, ears and heart be open to God's guidance, so I may know whose burdens he is sending me to carry per time. As I obey, he will also send someone to help with mine. His time of favour is here.
