“Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke?
Isaiah 58:6 NIV
Let's for one moment put aside the kind of fasting prescribed by God here, and just focus on the first part of the sentence above: "Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen". On so many levels, we all need to go back to God and hear what he has to say on all matters. We have allowed the world dictate terms for so long that God's standards now appear outdated. We want to do God's work the way it pleases the world. We want to take the world's principles, practices and procedures and apply them to the Word's commands. Unfortunately, the Word and the world are two eternally parallel lines that can never meet.
I need to retrace my steps back to God and ask him to lead me right. I need to tarry in his presence and get clear guidance on what he wants. I could do my best and the world applauds, while God is asking who inspired my actions. God has made clear his choice, his purpose and his will, and I can only make impact and fulfil purpose when I act at his command, in accordance with his will and timing and as he desires.
So, whatever I want to do, I must get God's leading and direction. It will save me from wasted years and fruitless labour. His time of favour is here.
