Right Training!
Train up a child in the way he should go [teaching him to seek God’s wisdom and will for his abilities and talents], Even when he is old he will not depart from it. PROVERBS 22:6 AMP
There are many ways to bring up a child and there is a particular way to bring up a child. The world has its ways and the Word of God also has its own prescriptions for proper upbringing of a child. The world gives you many options; there are a lot of self -help materials everywhere you turn; the world advocates what is contemporary and popular and widely acceptable in line with the times we live in. Those are the realities of today, where there are no specific guidance or standards.
However, God's Word lays down its own standards for bringing up a child. First, from today's extract, I perceive that training of a child must be a deliberate action; not a general and generic process. You must not only tell a child what to do; you must show and lead by example, you must keep speaking out, while the profession of your life is also matching the confession of your lips. The biggest challenge to today's child is the absence of true examples. There are plenty of motivational speakers and emotional intelligence services, but very few examples worthy of emulation. So, this generation is clueless and directionless, full of motion but no real movement towards the fulfilment of God's purpose for my life for their lives.
You do not really give the child options; you are deliberate about guiding, leading and protecting the child. You pour out yourself into the child, the right kind of stuff, based on the Word, and you send the child on his/her way, armed with the Word of God and the assurance that come what may, s/he will never depart from the way. You do not negotiate God's standard with anyone, because God cannot and will not be mocked. You properly channel the energy and enthusiasm of youth in the right direction, you give them the right platform to express their God-given potential.
If tomorrow for a child will be great, the seeds are planted when the child is still young. It is never too late to come to Christ, but if I will avoid heartache, I must pay the price early enough by teaching my children the way of the Lord. Fortunately, it is the only way that matters and has eternal reward. His time of favour is here.
