Word, Located!

Word, Located!

Your word I have treasured and stored in my heart, That I may not sin against You.
PSALM 119:11 AMP

As I live my life from day to day, there will be choices to make and decisions to take. Because of the delicate nature of this one life God has given me, I must make the choices and take the decisions very carefully, so that I can fulfil God's purpose for my life in my own generation, before the owner of life makes a demand for an account. Today's extract looks at this from about four perspectives:

1. What's the substance of my life: is it books, lovely music, wonderful friends and family or a nice job? Whilst all of these are good, they still cannot fill the void in the human heart. We can get busy at changing the world, but until my inner man is changed and aligned with God's will, I may make impact, but it may be at the expense of my soul. I may learn all the good songs by heart, I may stay up to date with the state of the world, but my most important discovery will be the treasures of the Word of God and His person.

2. It is a personal encounter; first a private decision before it becomes a public testimony. Like David, I must take that first step: make up my mind to seek God out. It does not matter what the world sees as popular or acceptable; I realise that I am responsible for the choices and decisions I make. That's why it is not about WE; it is about I. What are my priorities at the moment?

3. The personal decision to seek God will lead to some particular actions, and the most important will be to treasure and store up God's Word in my heart. Your heart will always be drawn to your treasures, and whatever you consider important will always hold your attention. What's the place of the Word in my heart? Is it something I seek when all other options have been exhausted? It is kept in my heart because that's the seat of all decisions and choices. That's the link to who I am and what I do. With the Word of God as guard, then my heart is on guard against the power and influence of sin.

4. Sin is the reason why I must get my priorities right. Sin causes eternal separation from God, and it must be avoided at all costs. David here knew the effect of sin, and he warns all who would hear to avoid sin at all costs. Sin will keep me away from God and all He represents.

That's the power of God's Word in today's extract: I keep my eye on the eternal prize, while sorting out the temporal daily living. I seek his help daily to navigate through life, so that I do not get to the end of it all and realise I had pursued the wrong priorities. His time of favour is here.
