Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalms 46:10 KJV
In these strange times, today's extract does not seem to make sense. The world, as we know it, may have changed forever, and the way we have also handled things may change too. We have been brought up in action and effects; we were taught that standing still meant inaction or foolishness. However, when dealing with God, things are a bit different from the way the world perceives or understands.
The world says: hustle. The Word of God says: Wait on God. The world advocates instant responses; the Word of God says: Be still. The world seems to be passing you by, and it appears you are standing still, not progressing. God's Word still says: Wait. There has to be something unique and unusual about a God who is not interested in the pace of the world around you, but on the depth of the connection you have with Him.
That is the purpose behind that instruction to be still: Know that He is God. What is the point of this whole season, if I come out of it with no knowledge of who God is or what He is doing? What is the whole point of time for soul - searching if I am not willing to seek God out and find out what His will and purpose for my life is. I owe it to God not to let this season pass before I sort this out.
What makes this even more expedient is the fact that God will be exalted, one way or the other, and there is absolutely nothing any of us can do about it. If I am still before God, He can show me what He desires of me, and when I know, that becomes my motivation to live to please Him. If I choose not to seek Him, a time is still coming when I will have to deal with Him, when He is exalted and lifted up.
That time comes soon. Recent events point to a supernatural power at work; one who is able to put the whole world on hold if He wants. While you still have time, why not seek Him? While He is still near, why not call on Him? When you meet Him, you will realise that your life's pursuits do not make sense outside of Him. When you have and know Him, you have everything you need. If you do not have Him, it will not matter how much else you had. Be still and make your approach; your eternity will be glad you did. His time of favour is here.
