New Covenant!

New Covenant!

And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup, which is poured out for you, is the new covenant [ratified] in My blood. Luke 22:20 AMP

Easter is here, and of course, a lot will be said of the greatest gift given this season. Of all that you have heard in the past, there will be repetitions. It may all sound familiar, but do not ever become so used to the story that you lose the awe of the awesome sacrifices that have secured your new standing with God.

The Lord's supper, or the last supper, is one of such stories. It represents the last thing Jesus did with all His disciples before Judas went his way, Peter did his thing and John too did his own bit. In that story are lessons that should hold your heart as you wait for the return of the reason for the season. First, the bread and the cup are symbols of his body and blood. These represent sacred reminders of the price paid for my present standing. I must never become so used to the solemn practice that I do it without considering its implication.

Secondly, it is a window into the new relationship that God desires with me. Before the cross, lambs and goats were the sacrifices that were accepted as substitutes. However, with the cross, the blood of Jesus now speaks. Consider the price: God gave up his own son; He turned his eyes away from him when he hung upon the cross. If God dealt with sin this way, don't you think you need to also consider how you view sin? If such a high and final price was paid for the redemption of man, don't you think there will be an equally high price to pay if you reject the gift already given?

Thirdly, a new covenant has been sealed. The contents of the cup has been poured out for ALL mankind. Covenants are usually sealed by a token, in this case, by blood. The blood of Jesus represents access into all that God is: healer, provider, protector, guide, guard, refuge and so many other things. Man-made devices may work for a while, but consider the eternal implications of who God is, what He offers and what He has done. You do not want to stand before God on the judgement day and realise you had not taken advantage of the life offered in and through Christ. Eternity is too long a time not to be sure of where you will spend it. Easter calls; Jesus calls. Heed, and obey. His time of favour is here.
